Posted In: , . By Sheena Beaston

Best R&B Album: Jennifer Hudson
Best Performance Country Duo/Group: "Stay" Sugarland
Song of the Year: "Viva La Vida" Coldplay
Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals: "Rich Woman" Robert Plant & Allison Krauss
Best Rock Album: Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends Coldplay
Best New Artist: Adele
Record of the Year: "Please Read the Letter" Robert Plant & Allison Krauss
Best Male Pop Vocal: "Say" John Mayer
Best Rap Album: Tha Carter III Lil Wayne
Album of the Year: Raising Sand Robert Plant & Allison Krauss

And with that, I'm officially over the Grammy's. Not that I wasn't already.

Here's a brief list of why I will be tuning into this mess. And yeah, I capped it at 11 reasons, because frankly, I didn't feel like this deserved more time than that. I'll weigh in on the travesty during and post-show.

1. To see how high Lil' Wayne is.
2. To see Coldplay get served legal papers.
3. To see if there are any shots of Robyn in the crowd.
4. To see, subsequently, who wins Best Electronic/Dance Album.
5. To make fun of Paul McCartney's "men who look like old lesbians" face.
6. To see if the ladies of the Best New Artist category beat out the Jonaii.
7. To see the disappoint on my face when they fail at accomplishing this.
8. To watch Raising Sand win Album of the Year because it will.
9. To watch Rihanna and Mr Timberlake grind one another.
10. To watch Neil Diamond be such a bad ass.
11. To numb the pain.
[+1] I'm LIVEBLOGGING

You can come back here to the main page promptly at 8:00pm for all the liveblogging fun. I'll be in chat mode about 10 minutes pre-show, so join me, won't you? S'gonna be fun and you'll be sexier if you join in.

Sidenote: If Katy Perry wins Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, I'll slice someone.

This song has no relevance to this post, other than the fact that it's super hot and has the word "LIVE" in the title. The end. See you tonight!

Ambien vs Ambient

Posted In: , , . By Sheena Beaston

That's a super lame post title. But forgive me in my days of sickness and complete exhaustion, it made a shit ton of sense at the moment.

Doctor Rosen Rosen is a Brooklyn based singer/producer whose style reminds me of a Mike Patton-ish groove. I jumped over to his myspace, and sure enough, he is self-desctribed as a Patton-esque sound/performer as well.

Great minds DO think alike. Rock!

DRR was kind enough to get in contact with me earlier this week and invite me to come see his next performance. Before accepting the welcomed and appreciated invitation, I had to give my ears an appetizer as to what I could be in store for hearing.

I was pleasantly surprised, as with having nothing to judge this innovative artist on, no prejedgements could be made. The sound is very ambient (see thats where the post title comes...lame medicinal term as compared to an all encompassing sound...deal with it). It's ever present and heart pulsing without grating on a nerve.

After listening to all tracks of his available, I became super psyched to hit up his show next week. Apparently, he commands an army of microphones, keyboards, and turntables on stage all to the backdrop of a mesmerizing light show.

You had me at light show.

Doctor Rosen Rosen plays The Annex on May 9th at 9:00pm. (152 Orchard Street between Rivington & Stanton) I'm on the list +1. Anyone who wants to rock it out with me, you know what to do.

The rhythm is gonna getcha...the rhythm is gonna getcha...

Must let you all in on a hot little nugget of music genius.

Matt Logan is a Peabody trained musician and song writer. He is classically trained and classically awesome. He’s also practically a member of my family, but that’s neither here nor there.

Logan plays cello within the trio of musicians known as “kate with matt and ben.”

Currently, one of his side projects has jumped into my heart, danced on my carotid artery and let the dance pulse explode within me.

Snazz Mammoth is classified as Electronic/Baroque/Classical. Sounds delicious. And it is.

The self-titled “Snazz Mammoth” mixes cello, guitar, wild beats and electronic tidbits. Comparisons have been made to early New Order and the like. Upon playing this song for a friend who is a mainly a fan of hip-hop and mainstream club music, he proclaimed, “This..this is......this is like dance rock.....and I love it!!!”

The aptly titled “445am” makes me think of nonsensical dreams I have at the wee hours before daybreak. But it makes so much sense. His voice comes across so clear, yet so haunting. The rising guitar/cello sequence starting around the 1:07 mark of the song cuts me to the core. The reverb/feedback is no mistake in this song...it adds a depth to anyone who has experienced a relationship with a “sugarcake, honeypie.”

Hand claps always get me too. What can I say. I’m a sucker for them.

If anything, listen from 4:00 on til the end of this song. (only about 35 seconds....I think you can spare that) So simple, but his composition background shows. Tremendously.

Logan writes and records every aspect of these songs in his minute abode on the outskirts of l’island Manhattan. He can frequently be seen playing with “kate with matt and ben” as well as at other venues performing as Snazz Mammoth. Highly suggest you checking his work out.
