About once every 3 or 4 months, my sister and brother-in-law throw a major event, all in the vein of jolly good times of music, burlesque, juggling, fire dancing, wire-walking, and more.
Here are all the details you need.
The Return of Rococo Party: A Baroque Bash!
Where: teneleven, 171 Avenue C (btw. 10th and 11th Streets), East Village, NYC
When: Saturday, November 14, 8pm
Cost: $5 cover or $2 if you don period costuming
The extravagance of 1770 rococo Paris meets the eclecticism of 2009 underground New York nightlife.
Think Amadeus, Marie Antoinette, the Marquis de Sade, etc...but with a thoroughly modern twist. This 6th installment of the party will feature burlesque, wire-walking, fire-dancing, juggling, spectacles, unicycling, live art, and live techno baroque and rococo rock music.
Powdered wigs, powdered faces, candelabras, masques, and big hair will all abound in the most baroque ball since the guillotine came down!
Best costume wins a prize! Attire is encouraged, but certainly not required!

On Saturday, January 31, in the East Village, the 3rd Return of Rococo baroque-themed party will feature burlesque, fire dancing, hula hoop acrobats, sword swallowing, juggling, magic, and the nouveau-electronic-baroque music and live art of Snazz Mammoth and kmbs.

These parties do not disappoint. Show up or be lame.
And our trusty photogfiend friends were in tow. This makes our life that much easier. We can sit back, relax, enjoy the shows, and know that we have our snaphappy companions to hook us up with great images from these fantastic events.
Saturday, August 16 marked the "return of" The Return of Rococo: a Baroque Bash. Held at teneleven, guests were treated to veritable feast of visual and aural delights. Music by KMBS and Snazz Mammoth, the jugglign of Katy San Domenico, burlesque by Victoria Privates, fortune tellers, le petit fors, specialty drinks and art by Sarah Valeri topped off an incredible evening.
Check out the entire image sets over at the Mr. Ben and IndyGo sites.
Give a listen to self-titled track from Snazz Mammoth below. We love it with every inch of our being!

In lieu of the wild successes of the first Baroque Bash back in June, we're pleased to announce that the genius crew behind The Return of Rococo: a Baroque Bash has another night of raucous rococo revelry planned.

First and foremost, a notice about the next Baroque Bash. Much like the last one, it will be a night to remember! Mark your calendar for August 16...location is teneleven, as 'twas last time. Once again, music will be provided by Snazz Mammoth, bringing us to the following.
Snazz Mammoth, who I've praised and lauded to the utmost before, has just bestowed a new song upon us.
Undecided is a brilliant piece of musical arrangement and its the little intricacies that make it a big song. Whether it's the powerful presence of a funked out cello, a tick-tocking beat, or a smattering of keys, each component is more than well received.

M'Lords and M'Ladies Were in Abundance Last Night
Last night marked The Return of Rococo: a Baroque Bash. Held at teneleven on Avenue C, the venue was fitting for such an event.
With nouveau baroque musical performances by Snazz Mammoth, guests were treated to le petit fors, strawberries, masks and champagne, along with performances by a contortionist, juggler and burlesque dancer. (although she insisted on being called a performance artist)
Overall, a fantastic event the likes of which NYC probably hasn't quite seen before. It's refreshing to know that things like this take place in a city oversaturated with wannabehipsterpopular dbags.

One of the first concerts I went to upon moving to New York City was The Dresden Dolls at Bowery Ballroom. The show was on Halloween. Still being somewhat green to both city living and the Drezzies, I had fully expected chunky girls in corsets and face paint followed around by boys in skinny ties, bowler hats and, well, more face paint. I was not disappointed.
In actuality, great effing concert. Amanda came out dressed as Britney Spears and did a jaunty cover of ...Baby, One More Time. Their original songs were equally as cochlear-ly soothing.
Jumping over to Stereogum this morning, I was attracted to the post on The Dresden Dolls. Apparently, next month they will release No, Virginia..., a collection of unheard material from the Yes, Virginia... sessions along with b-sides, compilation contributions, and previously unreleased tracks.
Stereogum has the exclusive new track Night Reconnaissance available for download in The 'Gum Drop here. Or you can stream it below. (along with a favorite track of mine from their self-titled debut album)
The Dresden Dolls play the Music Hall of Williamsburg this Saturday, April 26. 18+ show. Appearing with Major General, featuring Franz Nicolay.
