**EXCLUSIVE**

Happy New Year to all! And what a way to kick off 2010...because we've got a Beaston-exclusive, and boy oh boy, is it ever a most rad one!

One of our obsessions of (can we already say "last year") 2009, is the highly-recommended and "yep, you're all catching on" duo, My Gold Mask, out of Chicago. Gretta and Jack are two super-talented music ans, creating dynamic art-rock that we've been singing the praises of for many months. We even went so far as to bring them to NYC for our CMJ showcase in October!

Now, MGM are back and better than ever with a new EP. A Thousand Voices is 5 hits of power, fear, emotion and pure radness. You may recognize the lead track, Violet Eyes, as it spread through blogworld late last year (ugh, that still sounds too weird!).

I'm utterly beaming that these kids decided to let me debut one of the songs from the EP as a Sheena Beaston exclusive. Circle Mass is a furious frolic of everything we love most about My Gold Mask...intense rises and passionate vocalizings.

Circle Mass is yours for free below. It is included on their A Thousand Voices EP which will be available on January 9, 2010, but you can, and should, preorder it here now.

J'Davey - Outta The Window

Posted In: , , , , , . By Sheena Beaston

Here in Beastonia, all things funky, fresh and fly are greeted with a generous portion of anticipation and applause. So goes this case anytime a new tune from J*Davey is bestowed upon us....especially in this very moment.

We're writ a fair bit about the pair of Ms. Jack Davey and Brook D'Leau in the past, so a drop of new information set our hearts aflutter this afternoon. This fall, the duo was set to release their first official album, yet a string of delays has left the as-yet-untitled effort at a standstill.

But fear not, fans of the funk! On Christmas Day, J*Davey will release a free mixtape, The Boudoir Synema: The Great Mistape. Presents for everyone!

Included on the disc is the below slice of soul, Outta The Window. I always was THAT kid who couldn't wait til Christmas morning to unwrap their gifts. Ho ho ho!

mp3: J'Davey - Outta The Window

I get the feeling that many artists are honing their holiday "givings", and frankly, we're ok with that! See, it really "tis the season" to be generous, and while we like laying a ton of love on you, it's only because we're reciprocating all the joy we've been thrown. For instance...

The Chicagoan electro duo, Moneypenny, are warming our yuletide logs with three gifts, neatly wrapped and full of cheer.

First up, is the 2-sided single, which features Moneypenny's reworking of the classic Peanuts' song, Christmas Time Is Here, into an ultra funky jam. A cover of the Joy Division song, Love Will Tear Us Apart, serves as the B-Side. Additionally, the gals put together a special holiday mixtape, which is the final installment of their Spandexxx monthly series.

And yep, you're getting all three...for free.

Building upon its acclaimed reputation as a premier presenter of noteworthy emerging and established independent music, New York City's summer-oriented Seaport Music Festival debuts its latest venture: Seaport Music Records.

First up for SMR is the release of This Christmas, a retro-styled, alternative holiday single by The Elves of Heaven, featuring Martin Clancy. And in the spirit of the holiday season, the single is being offered up as a free stocking stuffer!

In conjunction with the release of This Christmas, Clancy will become the first Seaport Music Records Artist in Residence. He is commissioned to "create, collaborate, and produce" a series of releases for the label over the course of the next two years.

On Wednesday, December 16, Telepathe, Walter Schreifels and Nick Zinner (of Yeah Yeah Yeahs) will all be celebrating the season in style...at The Studio at Webster Hall's One Year Anniversary and Holiday Party. And we're inviting some lucky beasts to join us there!

Here's what you need to know. I'm hitting up 13 lucky souls (along with their invited +1's) to join for me holiday fun times. Why 13? Well see we wanted to do a whole "12 days of Christmas" type thing, but then realized, I hate the number 12. So 13 it is!

Simply send an email here no later than 9am on Friday, December 11, and you're entered! Winners will be selected at random.

Limited tickets are also available here, but um, we're giving away a ton of spots, so enter, cause chances are you'll probably win!

Are you ready for one of the raddest bits you'll receive all week? Mid last month, I let you in on a secret that Fear Of Tigers, the one-man mixing and mastering machine, would be giving us an early Christmas present today. Well kiddos, the time is nigh and we're relishing in it!

Influenced by everyone from The Cure to Aphex Twin, FOT, aka Benjamin Berry, releases Cossus Snufsigalonica, a free album containing ten tracks of ridiculously rad power. What does that odd title signify?

Dudeman notes: "It’s not a secret but it is a cryptic reference to something wonderful. I don’t want to say too much and I’ll be impressed if anyone can work it out."

Hey, I'm all for not knowing, as long as we're privy to all this heat in free fashion. Track list is below, as well as the link to the full album, and one of my favorite cuts from within.

1. I Can Make Your Pain Disappear
2. Please Don't Leave
3. What Did I Do?
4. The Adventures of Pippi Longstrump
5. Friday Night at Geek Club

Hey kids...HAPPY THANKSGIVING! In conjunction with super cool new kid on the scene, Erik Hassle, I am pleased to team up and dole out an extra special THANK YOU to both his fans and my readers. Well, at least, to the UK constituent. (which in no way discounts my love and thanks to all readers, wordlwide!)

To show appreciation to his fans, Erik will be hosting and performing at a very special Christmas house show at a secret location in East London on December 17.

Seeing as how this Beast is based in New York City, we're extending the offer to two (2) lucky readers to attend this exclusive and most rad event! Here's the catch. One, you MUST be based in the UK. And two, it is imperative that you are 18 years or older, as the booze will be flowing freely during the show.

Here's how you can win. You can start by following me on twitter, if you aren't already...and why wouldn't you be? I'm hilarious and it's weird if you don't. Secondly, copy and paste the below message, then hit send!

Hey @sheenabeaston, I'm thankful for you, Erik Hassle and this rad opportunity, so stuff my stocking with a ticket!

Want to know WHY it's vital to be following me on twitter? Both winners, who will be selected at random, must be notified through Direct Message, which can only be accomplished by following me. It's that simple. Contest runs through 5pm EST on Thursday, December 10, so we're giving you plenty of time to enter. (note: as the location is secret, winners will emailed the party location 24 hours prior to the event)

If you have any questions, please email me here. Now get off the computer and go enjoy the holiday by getting all sorts of fat!

Aww, gush! Lykke Li is giving away her cover of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, for FREE, to celebrate both the release of New Moon, and the subsequent soundtrack on which a new song of hers appears.

Here's what the perfectly pitched gal has to say:
"I know its kind of dangerous to be swimming into those waters as so many amazing singers has done it before but I just can’t help myself, its like chocolate, I love it and I love singing it. In my eyes I'm not even a singer yet, I'm just a lonely pedestrian who likes to sing and do films. So here is me singing it live in the amazing Atlantis Studio in Stockholm filmed by my friend Ted Malmros."

This makes us SWOON. Straight into our weekend.

This Saturday, November 21, a massive pop-up free swap in Bushwick is going down. Score! is a pop-up swap — a roving event series that invites New Yorkers to clear out their closets and score new treasures, through every aspect of music, apparel, art, media and random miscellany.

The last Score! Pop Up Swap drew over 1,300 people, and this weekend's event is sizing up to be just as bananas. Flavorpill and Bust Magazine are hosting the swap, the senior editor of Nylon Magazine is curating the clothing department, Showpaper is in charge of the music. More radness include: open bar, live-screenprinting, custom tote bags, and best of all, the event is a fundraiser for City Harvest. Proceeds from the door will go to their anti-hunger initiatives.

What does this have to do with our muscially minded beastings? Simple. Score! The Mixtape. was culled together by DJ Ian Urgo, who pulled out his vinyl funk jams, brought in some remixes, and made magic happen. Track list as follows.

1. Frankie Smith – Double Dutch Bus
2. War – Galaxy
3. The Doobie Brothers – Long Train Runnin’
4. D-Train – You’re the One for Me
5. The S.O.S. Band – Take Your Time (Do It Right)

Last week we let you know about the monstrously rad mixtape from funky man Jack Splash that would be dropping this week. Well kiddos, today's the day, and that day, my friends, is super GROOVY.

We've sung his praises up and down, so instead of ranting and raving more, instead we'll direct you here, to download Heir to the Throne: Volume 1 in its entirety. Below, you can also sample 2 mixtape cuts that are equally sexy and slamming.

Also, if/when you download that full jawn, listen to the first 3 seconds of Tangerine. Shiiiiit.

It's safe to say that one of the early 2010 releases we are most geeked about is Chew Lips' Unicorn. You may have seen our frequent posts about the London troupe's offerings as of late, and all for good reason. We're extremely hyped for their full length debut, as you should be too.

And you know what makes us even more excited? Chew Lips are giving away one free album track a month up until the release the album. We can definitely get behind the notion of new tunes at no cost!

Aside from the freebies, Shoreditch's own, Labyrinth Jackals, have taken on the group's song, Seven, and produced an echoed out and bass glitchy remix that highlights Tig's beautiful vocals. (You can listen to the original here)

No sleeping on either of these two acts is allowed in Beastonia!

mp3: Chew Lips - Seven (Labyrinth Jackals Remix)

You'll undoubtedly recognize the name Jovi Rockwell as one of the many featured players on the epically monstrous Major Lazer album, Guns Don't Kill People...Lazers Do. What you may not know, however, is that the Jamaicain born jamstress has quite a list of her own works as well.

Known for her eccentric style and original flavor, Rockwell releases Psycho Therapy today, a long awaited mixtape with guest appearances from Akon, Diplo, Major Lazer and many more. The album is a swirling swim through all sorts of dubby deliciousness. Rockwell's unique vocal styling keeps listeners' interest piqued as to what's around the next beat dropping corner.

Grab the full mixtape here. Peek at the track list, then jump below it for 2 tracks we just can't quit playing.
