Lupe Fiasco debuted a new video for Solar Midnite yesterday. He also took to his official blog to clear up rumors about the single, the video, his upcoming album, Lasers, and other pieces of noteworthy info.

First, we'll hit you with his [select extracted] words, then jump below for the video.

"There seems to be a lot...A LOT...of misconception and misguided info floating around the net...so for the sake of clarity and so that everyone (HOPEFULLY) will be on the same page let me reaffirm and debunk some things and just turn down the general noise that is surrounding Lupe Fiasco...thats me...

My Third Album is Titled "LASERS" not "WE ARE LASERS" or "LUPE.N.D."...

"LASERS" is NOT my last and final album...does NOT HAVE A RELEASE DATE YET...

"SOLAR MIDNITE" is NOT a single off of "LASERS"...Nor was it intended to be apart of "LASERS" project...

"SOLAR MIDNITE" was exclusively done at the request of the Twilight: New Moon Team to be apart of their film, motion picture soundtrack and as a vehicle to promote the film...NOT TO PROMOTE "LASERS"..."

Love me some Lupe! Reminder: dude's next free mixtape, Friend of the People, will be out on Christmas Day.

Sort of. Here's the deal. There's a category in The Grammy's for Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media Field. Be that as it may, Miley Cyrus' tween-adored track, The Climb, was a contender for the award, until this morning.

It was initially reporthted that a previously nominated track was “disqualified.” That track [The Climb] which appears on the soundtrack to Hannah Montana: The Movie, was removed from consideration, leaving the nom open for the song with the next-highest vote count: Karen O's All is Love, from Where the Wild Things Are.

According to Cyrus' camp, they had previously remnoived it from contention, yet an error still had the song available for ballot votes. The nomination gives Karen two nods, the other being received for Best Alternative Album and It's Blitz!

The category nominees now look as such.

All Is Love (From Where The Wild Things Are)
Karen O. & Nick Zinner, songwriters (Karen O. & The Kids)

Decode (From Twilight)
Josh Farro, Hayley Williams & Taylor York, songwriters (Paramore)

Jai Ho (From Slumdog Millionaire)
Gulzar, A.R. Rahman & Tanvi Shah, songwriters (A.R. Rahman, Sukhvinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, Mahalaxmi Iyer & Vijay Prakash)

Once In A Lifetime (From Cadillac Records)
Ian Dench, James Dring, Amanda Ghost, Beyoncé Knowles, Scott McFarnon & Jody Street, songwriters (Beyoncé)

The Wrestler (From The Wrestler)
Bruce Springsteen, songwriter (Bruce Springsteen)

Please excuse me while I completely nerd out for a few minutes. One thing you might not know about my beastly nature is that I do get a little excited by sweeping theatrical releases. And never has been more the case than with the impending viewing of the Rob Marshall directed, Nine. (fine, go ahead and judge me.)

Yep, I'm all sorts of psyched to catch this film, and what's even better, is that with a star studded cast including Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz, among others, comes the release of the soundtrack. Tracks featured in the film will include voicework by Griffith Frank, Fergie and The Noisettes.

Watch the trailer for this sultry stageshow via the silver screen now.

The Nine soundtrack is out online via Geffen on December 15 and in stores December 22.

Earlier this morning, I caught wind of news floating out of the Goldfrapp camp that made me smile on the inside and outside. Popjustice had the first bit of news on the duo's upcoming single, Rocket, which will appear on the band's 5th studio album, Head First.

Now, with the word coming through the 'Frapp site as well as official press releases, we've got all the details that make 2010 seem even more promising that already thought.

Genre-smashing musical pioneers Goldfrapp announce their brand new album Head First to be released through Mute on March 23, 2010. This will be preceded by the new single, Rocket, on March 9th, 2010.

The album is Goldfrapp's most powerful trip to date, a speedy rush of synth optimism, euphoria, fantasy and romance. With life affirming lyrics and stellar production it lifts off at full tilt and takes us on a journey to the heart of 2010.

In addition to scoring the upcoming John Lennon biopic, Nowhere Boy, Goldfrapp will tour in 2010 in support of this new album.

Aww, gush! Lykke Li is giving away her cover of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, for FREE, to celebrate both the release of New Moon, and the subsequent soundtrack on which a new song of hers appears.

Here's what the perfectly pitched gal has to say:
"I know its kind of dangerous to be swimming into those waters as so many amazing singers has done it before but I just can’t help myself, its like chocolate, I love it and I love singing it. In my eyes I'm not even a singer yet, I'm just a lonely pedestrian who likes to sing and do films. So here is me singing it live in the amazing Atlantis Studio in Stockholm filmed by my friend Ted Malmros."

This makes us SWOON. Straight into our weekend.

This might be one of the first indirectly non-music related post titles here, but never fear, cause we can tie it in a la "six degrees of Kevin Bacon" style. Actually, it only takes ONE degree. Tim Burton directed the music video for The Killers' 2006 song, Bones. Ta-dah!

Ever since we caught wind that visionary cinematographer, director, and all around mad genius, Tim Burton, would be exhibiting at MoMA, we've searched high and low for sneak peeks at what could only be considered a walk through the wild side.

Check out the Burton-esque trailer for the Burton curated and created exhibit below.

Accompanied by the film exhibitions Tim Burton and Tim Burton and the Lurid Beauty of Monsters, the exhibit will run from November 22, 2009 through April 26, 2010.

Back in September, we broke news that Goldfrapp was scoring the upcoming film surrounding John Lennon's early life, Nowhere Boy. Sadly, it seems as though it's only being released in the UK, on Christmas Day no less. So lucky, you, ya Brits!

At least today, we've got the trailer for the biopic, or shall we say, bi-epic? Puns!

Sure we're feeling a little silly this afternoon, but we're also feeling a whole lot of, um, FEELINGS after taking a peek at the first video evidence of the movie. Click play, below, and let us know what YOU'RE feeling after watching.

Can Kristin Scott Thomas do any wrong? What about that kid playing Paul? Thoughts all around? Oh, and did you catch that quick intro to the music as done by Alison and Will?

Yep, I'm swooning.

Goldfrapp to Score John Lennon Biopic

Posted In: , , , . By Sheena Beaston

PREFACE: This is lovingly stolen from NME, since I am not on my own techified computer.

Goldfrapp have announced that they are set to score the film for the upcoming biopic about John Lennon.

Based on the book, Imagine This: Growing Up With My Brother John Lennon, by his half sister, Julia Baird - the film is about Lennon’s childhood and adolescence.

"We have written the score for a film called "Nowhere Boy". It's about John Lennon as a boy"; wrote Alison Goldfrapp on her bands' blog.

"It’s truly amazing that they gave us the opportunity to do this. We are all really excited about going to Abbey Road studios soon to record the strings with the full orchestra."

As for the next Goldfrapp album, a follow up to 2008’s Seventh Tree, she also gave a quick update on how it was going.

"Now our work on the film is almost finished, we will carry on writing the Goldfrapp album."

Nowhere Boy, which features Kristin Scott Thomas and screenwriter Matt Greenhalgh, who wrote the script for the Joy Division film Control, will premiere on October 29 as part of the London Film Festival.

Sheena Beaston: For the Record

Trumpets blare: we're back!

The holiday was swell and thank you all for asking!

You may have noticed some changes 'round here. After much delay and resistance, we finally decided to cave and allow certain advertisers a venue to get their word out. Granted, we're still adjusting the template, so it may look funkier than the back of Britney's weave. Regardless, please do myself, and our dear sponsors a favor, and hit 'em up with a couple of click-thrus.

Speaking of dear Spears, who watched her documentary last night?

I just go through life, living like a karate kid.

SWOON.

Ok, quick...name that movie!

Got it yet?

Good.

Bill Allen, Bart Connor and Lori Laughlin starred in Rad, a 1986 film about BMX racing. It was panned by critics but ultimately became a cult classic.

It's one of those films that you can quote endlessly. It's extra cheese, but that's what I enjoy most about it. For instance...

1. The post title is probably the greatest quote ever.

2. Duke Best walks over to a punch bowl and says "Let's wake up those drinks!"

3. Sgt. Smith tells Cru, "Pretend he's in the lumberyard...go balls out!"

4. Cru waxes poetic, "Me. I ride for me."

The other great part about this movie? The soundtrack.

Get Strange - Hubert Kah
Baby Come Back - Jimmy Haddox
Caught Up In The Crossfire - The Charm Kings
Music That You Can Dance To - Sparks
Send Me An Angel - Real Life
Wind Me Up - 3-Speed
With You (Love Theme) - John Farnham
Thunder In Your Heart - John Farnham
Riverside - The Beat Farmers

If you're a true fan, you'll want to grab up one of these Rad Racing shirts. Immediately.

mp3: Sparks - Music You Can Dance To

Did you ever think, in your wildest dreams, that you could dance to an epically genre specific movie soundtrack? Maybe you did, and I'm just slow. But when we came across LA Riots' Kill Bill last week, we couldn't stop dancing to it, hence the weeks delay in getting it to you.

LA Riots are the tandem of Daniel LeDisko and Jo'B. They've created highly superior remixes of The Ting Tings, Weezer, Hearts Revolution, Justice and Hot Chip. They just played NYC last week, but have a plethora of dates coming up, most on the west coast.

Check out their MySpace for more info while you groove alongside Uma and Quentin.

(side note: we're almost at our "mark of the beast" post. that being the 666th. any suggestions for something special to do? we have a vague idea, but any insight is helpful!)

Couple of photos from last night's premiere and after party(s).

Two words. Ken Swift.

The living legend, b-boy originator, grand master supreme breaker was in attendance. I'm going to throw my dweebdom around here and say I almost teared up when he walked in.

Alright, composure.

Check out the pics.

Planet B-Boy Movie Premiere

Posted In: , , . By Sheena Beaston

Being entrenched in a world of backup dancing, I was more than thrilled when a colleague from The Hollywood Reporter approached me today and asked, "Aren't you the hip-hop/backup dancer?" To which I giddily assured her that I was.

And bestowed upon me were 2 tickets to tonight's premiere and after party for Planet B-Boy.

Planet B-Boy is a feature-length, theatrical documentary that re-discovers one of the most incredible dance phenomena the world has ever seen. The film will go inside the international, underground b-boy scene happening today in Japan, France, Germany, South Korea, and the United States. At the Battle of the Year, the subjects will go head to head with crews from nineteen different countries in one of the fiercest dance competitions ever seen. Ten thousand screaming fans will witness their one shot at glory and see who will be crowned the best on Planet B-Boy.

Many thanks to Donna!
