Friday, December 4 sees the return of Ian McCulloch, the iconic frontman of Echo and the Bunnymen, to New York City. After a smashing show at Mercury Lounge earlier this fall, many an avid fan were left wanting more. Now, thanks to the fine folks over at East Village Radio, along with The Culture of Me, and well me, Sheena Beaston, we are pleased to announce the following.
As described above, Mac will be performing a solo set at The Studio at Webster Hall. Prior to his performance, the Liverpoolian lad will be kicking it with Mark Ronson during his Authenti Sh*t slot at EVR. Both Jeff (TCoM) and msyelf will be covering the pre-show radio set, complete with this Beast working the mic for on-camera footage to air after the haps take place.
Here's the deal. The after party/show is a closed event, by invitation only. "But Beast...how do I get in then?" THAT, my dear readers, is where my generosity comes in.
On Monday, November 30, I will be announcing an exclusive contest, in which a handful of you lucky souls will be my personal guests to the event. More details to follow after the holiday.
Until then, get excited and stay rad!

No offense Sheena, but this is the best you could find? Echo wasn't that big when they were actually active back in the day. They had a few decent songs and thats about it. Ian comes out and makes his anti U2 comments yet again soley because he will do anything to get people to show up to listen to him. If it means bashing U2 then so be it. He may not like the band or their music and certainly everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but he is sadly living in a deluded state. He can't see that U2 is bigger then just a band? From album sales alone they are one of the top selling bands of all time. That equates to more people liking them then other bands. But the work Bono has done for charity and Africa, certainly puts them at a legendary status. Just because todays artists don't say that they want to play music like U2 or the Stones doesn't mean they were not influenced by those bands. The Spud comment is meant as an insult to the Irish. Anyone with half a brain can see that. Perhaps Sheena you might look for some better acts or better yet better people to work with. For if any old bigot or racist will do, why not sign Al Sharpton up for one of your shows?
My advice for you is to tell Ian next time he wants to promote himself or his band to either stick to his own music and let that stand on its own or if that doesn't work to think about some sex scandal...Sex always sells...least he won't look like such a tool.
Hey, if you don't dig him, you don't have to come!
Thanks for the narrative.
Could not agree more with that last comment. But I would like to talk about Echo and the Bunnymen who??? Why are they playing anywhere? This like hey lets get a group of old rockers most of us don't remember together and have them play songs most of us don't know. Remember the Buggles, The Saints, Husker Du, Ministry, Dio, or Mr. Mister?? This is the level Echo is at. Well The buggles at least were one of the very first videos on MTV. Echo isn't even as famous or as good as Erasure, Depech Mode, Fine Young Cannibals, or the Fixx.
There are so many old bands out there why not look to get one who more of us remember on your show? Or are you a big fan of Echo and the nobodys??
The reason why Echo never really had any commercial success is simply because most people did not like his music. Ian can rant all he wants to about other artists, but the facts are the facts. Nobody buys your album because they don't enjoy your music. Thats not to say some people don't like Ian's music, just very few. But Ian is an artist and simply needs to get over his jealousy and go back to creating his work of art.
Well I liked their album Porcupine. I don't really remember much else about them. I would not bother going to see them in concert, but I like what the guy said about those other bands. Are any of those 80's bands still touring? I'd love to see Depeche Mode or FYC again.
I can't really argue with whats been said. But I would like to point out one little thing. Echo and the Bunny men did not have great US success, but they did have sccess in the UK. A number of their albums were top 10 albums, so to say that nobody liked them is not really fair. Looks like Ian should be more careful in who he bashes as clearly their are more U2 fans then Echo fans. The little free time I have from work would not be spent going to see an Echo concert, but that is soley because I am not a huge fan. I am sure the place will be packed and the concert will be a big hit. Good luck Sheena!
Wow, way to complain people. If you're not interested, go somewhere else. Seriously.
jesus h. christ! the level of rock knowledge in your posters here is pitiful. the bunnymen were one of the most influential bands of the last 30 years, only paralleled by joy division.
thank god they never wasted much time with the US. but then you never had any proper rock press or radio so guess that's why you're a bit unclear of who stands where in rock's rich tapestry.
i mean - the fixx! depeche mode! do you realise anyone in britain would laugh at you for saying that?
d
(and i'm not even a scouser)
the fixx! depeche mode! is this some kind of american satire i don't get?
i know you never had any proper rock press or radio, but that's no excuse for such ignorance.
the bunnymen - along with joy division - were one of the most influential bands of the last 30 years.
thank god they didn't waste too much time over here.
