And I Put Him in the Damndest Place...
Chewing Pics was formed in the latter part of 2007. While band mates and long time friends Ernestos D’Amaso and Elias Diaz have been making music together since the turn of the century, it wasn’t until singer Naima Mora joined in on the mishap that their music began to take solid shape.
Drummer Elias happened to take notice of the singer’s unique melodic voice and tremulous screaming and asked if she’d be interested in writing some lyrics for several of the then duo’s tracks. It stuck. Very long hours and several months later, Chewing Pics has developed a very distinct repertoire.
The band began by seeding the idea of intertwining improvisational jamming with already constructed layouts to come to what some audience members have described as a musical journey. The trio has developed an effect driven sound of laden colors that mash up against drum and bass and on top of that adding some real rock here and there. It all comes together in the band’s first EP, TARANTULA where the music flows in and out of emotional crashes and highs. (from the band's myspace)
Individually, each of the members is tremendously talented, but when the three come together, a twisting and tumultuous ride begins to form and the audience can't help but jump on and support the effort.
Chewing Pics has a number of shows in the NYC area coming up. You should definitely check them out. (more show details on their site here)

LOVE them. The Cursed String is my favourite so far, but really, it's all delicious.
