In Meritorious Defense Of...#2
I actually got a much warmer response than I initially anticipated in regards to the first installment of the In Meritorious Defense Of... posts.
So let's get to another one, shall we? But it's not just one track. It's a complete artist that we just can't quit, no matter how hard we [don't] try.
Defendant #1: Rihanna
Case Against: She stole my man, Chris Brown. NATCH! Over produced pop songs by the biggest names in the game have launched the slightly better than average performer.
Case For: This could be a long list, but I'll try, TRY, to be brief.
1. Her summer smash, Disturbia, got me a nod on Vulture.
2. Breakin' Dishes was my campy anthem since I first heard it about 18 months ago. And when that one of the contestants on So You Think You Can Dance used the tune to perform her solo to last night, I died a little. In a good way. (And yes, I watch that show...obviously.)
3. A remix of Take a Bow by DJ Levan, which only slightly adjusts the original, but makes me love it even more.
4. Please Don't Stop the Music, Push Up On Me, Umbrella, etc...
5. Sick sense of style. Or at least the know how to get people to dress her fantastically.
Verdict: I kinda don't want to live in a world where Rihanna doesn't exist. You may begin to throw tomatoes at me now.
