I recall the first time I heard Amy Winehouse more than a handful of years ago. I felt revitalized even though the sound was such a retronic throwback.

This morning, I did one of my "stumblings" around myspace and I bumped my toe into an artist out of the UK who did just the same as poor ol' girl did a ways back.

Bryn Christopher sings with heart and soul reminiscent of Otis Redding, Sam Cooke or hell, even Nina Simone. His voice is somewhat ambiguous, but I think that's what initially drew me into it. The style of his song The Quest is also highly similar to Winehouse's You Know I'm No Good using the dirgelike qualities of Back to Black.

With a voice like a knife that cuts straight to the soul, and ladies, it doesn't hurt that he's super easy on the eyes, hey may just be headed down the path to stardom a la Winehouse. Hopefully, minus all the drug-fueled drama.

Christopher has performance dates scheduled in the UK throughout the summer, which you can find on his myspace.
