Mayer Hawthorne grew up just outside of Detroit, and vividly remembers, as a child, driving with his father and tuning the car radio in to the rich soul and jazz history the region provided. “Most of the best music ever made came out of Detroit", claims the singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist.

The clear influence that his rich upbringing has on his music is like a fresh slap in the face. In a highly saturated blogworld of remixes and electro lovin' dandy thumpers, Hawthorne looks to his roots and musical legends of yore when crafting his own sound.

MH's debut album, A Strange Arrangement, was released on September 8 through Stones Throw Records, and the praise began pouring in. And it's easy to hear why. With a smooth vocal style and carefuly constructed songs that make listener immediately go weak in the knees, Mayer Hawthorne has proved that sometimes the biggest tunes are the ones that quietly sneak up on you.
