The Stationary Set thrive on irony, but not the neo-hipster “Meatloaf is cool now” type of irony. They swim in sarcasm, a perfect conduit for the expression of doubt, struggle, and matters of the heart. They know how to laugh, especially at themselves.
From the mitten of the Midwest (that's Michigan, if you're geographically-challenged), in all of its mediocre glory, therein The Stationary Set came to be. Born out of lead singer Andrew Lutes’ over-production of indie-rock/pop songs for a former band, Lutes teamed up with long-time friend and rock-band veteran Josh Hoisington. Later, Joshua Davis and his Telecaster aided in the arrangement of songs old and new as the three sought out the rhythm of Logan Baldwin and Gabriel Kubitz on drums and bass respectively.
Pairing smart lyrics with a penchant for well-balanced arrangements, there's a sentiment of early 90's pop rock influence that still makes a modern and timely effort to stay on the tip of your tongue.
And want even better news? The Stationary Set plays Mercury Lounge here in NYC this Wednesday, July 15 at 10:00pm. Get a ticket here.
