The highlight of our June stretch of shows came on what was quite possibly the only sunny day of the month, thus further enhancing our fond memories of the event. Canadian electropop group, Dragonette, have long since been on my list of "must-see" bands, so to have the opportunity to witness them live was a treat in and of itself.*
Ever since their 2005 debut Dragonette EP first hit my ears, I was instantly a fan. With a mix of electro, rock and glam, Dragonette's songs cut like a wielded knife bound to make you dance.
With a new album, Fixin To Thrill, due out at the end of summer, I was anxious to see what was in store, in terms of new songs mixed in with old favorites. Immediately, the band opened with a new track, Gone Too Far, before going into crowd pleaser, Take It Like a Man, from the 2007 debut album, Galore.
Powering through a 13 song set that delicately balanced the new and old, fellow concert goer and most rad chick, Abby, and I made note to each other: "WHY aren't these guys majorly big?" This sentiment was never more evident when Dragonette laid it all on the line with the new track Get Your Titties Off My Things. This had instant hit written all over it, and you'd be silly not to agree, after having heard.
A major highlight of the set was the inclusion of new song, Pick Up the Phone [rumored to be the next single]. I'd been privvy to hear the track prior to the show and while certain songs may have immediate appeal, this one hit me hard and fast while relaying a matured sound of staying power.
