It's almost time to say goodbye to Sexuality. C'mon now, let's not be crude. The last 12" from Sebastien Tellier's praised album of that name, is a split single. Fingers of Steel / L'Amour et La Violence comes packaged as a hot pink slice of vinyl, with remixes to stir up all sorts of pulse racing emotions.

We're focusing on side 1, rather, the neo-romantic classic, Fingers of Steel. The song is the story of a human vs. robot love affair, moisty and hypnotic, already played in clubs all around the world. The one and only remix is from Tellier's labelmates, Hypnolove, and it's a tribute to Rondo Veneziano.

Word is, Tellier danced to it in his tour bus several times in a row when he heard it for the first time. We're doing the same...sans motorized vehicle.

Buy the vinyl here.

You may well have heard the name Ali Love before, either as the singer on The Chemical Brothers’ smash Do It Again, or on his own earlier solo singles. But even if somehow you haven’t come across him already, one thing is certain: from here on in, there’ll be no escaping Ali Love.

November brings forth the first single from Love's triumphant debut album,
the limited release Diminishing Returns. It's a nod to the brilliantly crafted Italo-disco era that will immediately have you begging for more.

The remix package promises to be major as well, with heavyhitters Azari & III and Eli Escobar enlisted to fix it up and mix it down!

Stream it over on the almighty PJ and then grab that Chemical Brothers banger below!

La Bionda - I Wanna Be Your Lover

Posted In: , , . By Sheena Beaston

If you're a frequenter of the site, then you'll be well aware of my penchant for early 80s Italo Disco tracks. So, on occasion, we like to dive through our archives, and present you with an artist or track from the genre that you may not be aware of. Today, it's all about La Bionda, and dadgum, this is one of my most favorite acts of the scene.

Carmelo and Michelangelo La Bionda were two of the most active artists in the Italian electronic music in the late 70s and early 80s. They released songs under the names La Bionda and D. D. Sound.

I Wanna Be Your Lover was a single that La Bionda released in Belgium in 1980. The B-side, Action, accompanied the immediately catchy tune. There's a great electronic element to Lover, and with the addition of some whispery male vocals, hand claps, snaps, and particularly well-placed keyboard hits, it's no wonder I fell so easily in love with it upon first listen many moons ago.

Check out the video, directed and animated by Guido Manuli, then grab the tracks.

Tell me that vid doesn't look like it very well could have been a Daft Punk production. INFLUENTIAL!

Introducing: Airys

Posted In: , , , , , . By Sheena Beaston

Airys is pure italian electro pop. It's italo, it's funky and it's inspired by Italian songwriters Lucio Battisti and Crydamoure.

Airys features Syria, a popular Italian artist that fell in love with the recent electro movement. Behind the knobs stands a very young production team from Milan formed by Giulio Calvino and Sergio Maggioni already members of the Euro-touring garage-wave band, Hot Gossip.

Airys' newest remix is the 3rd in a series of 8, and it's safe to that I am more then anxiously awaiting the remianing 5.

Diana Est

Posted In: , . By Sheena Beaston

I'm kind of obsessed with Diana Est lately. Who is she? She was an Italian new wave artist, active mostly between 1982 and 1984.

1. Check out how desirable her matchy matchy outfit/boots combo is in this [non-embeddable] video!
2. Her songs feel relevant today, although I have NO idea what she's saying.
3. Again, peep the below vid...she can pack a frickin' stadium!
4. She was Italy's La Roux, before La Roux was even born. View that angle cut!

By the way, there are like NO images of her, hardly any information and that's all unfortunate. I'm new to her sounds as of about a month ago, so if anyone knows anything else by Diana Est that you're willing to share, please let me know.

My fave track so far is Le Louvre with it's driving bass line and hooky synths...hook a sister up!

As big a fan as I've become of italo disco and the poster boys Bloody Beetroots, there are a slew of other dj'ital acts that work just as well.

One such newbie I've had on repeat is Cécile, especially the new track, Never Trust.

See if you don't agree.

If you do, ace!

If you don't, email here and throw a virtual tomato at me.

Setting Myself Up for It?

Posted In: , , . By Sheena Beaston

Between yesterday's Sophie Ellis-Bextor track/post on Heartbreak Make Me a Dancer, and what I'm about to post, let's hope this is not any sense of foreshadowing.

Heartbreak are 2 lads from London who have recently scorched my ears with an infectious blend of italo disco and electro pop. Synths-a-heavy make an early 80's flashback quite inevitable.

Ali Renault and Sebastian Muravchix juxtapose their varied backgrounds (Metal, Electro, Italo Pop) to create a disco hybrid infused with the dark energy of Black Sabbath that will make you dance with tears in your eyes...like bi-polar maniacs in the brink of an ecstatic panic attack. (from their MySpace)

I think more artists should describe their music by associating the sound with mental disorders and black metal collaborations. It's just logic, people. But it makes sense. Heartbreak's songs are a fantastic culture of just about everything I love in music. Keys, oh, the keys!

For your enjoyment, the track, Regret, from their 2006 EP. We're Back, a new song ready to make you thrash. Lastly, a remix of Neon Neon's I Lust U, which I've already written about before and is near the top of my 2008 most loved so far songs list.

Known for shunning publicity, Sally Shapiro (the pseudonym to her birth-given Swedish name) does not want to perform live. And that's fine with me, so long as she keeps making the 80's electrobeat Italo disco influenced sounds that I love. (There's a hot SS track below, but frankly, I used this modern day performer to segue to one of my favorite Italo disco acts of the 1970's. Sorry, Sally. I still love you.)

Adriano Celentano and Raffaella Carra hooked up in mid-70's Italy to form a rock-disco combination that was unmatchable (and they were not publicity shy by any means at all). The U.S. had Sonny and Cher with there pop-disco. Sweden had ABBA and their disco-disco. But Italy was the clear front runner when it came to innovation and ingenuity.

To this day, I have absolutely NO idea how to pronounce the title of this song of theirs: Prisencolinesunaciusol 70'. What I DO know, is that it puts a large smile on my face whenever I watch the video or listen to the song. Honestly, if you attempt to watch said video and do not smile, go to your doctor and ask to be prescribed an MOAI Inhibitor, because you are more than likely depressed.

Adriano looks completely bangable in his mock-hobo getup and Raffaella was the definition of sex on heels in the era.
